Ridgeway News -- August 5, 2026

E-WASTE RECYCLING: If you have a pile of old electronics like laptops, phones, old appliances and the like, bring them to the old Hall this Saturday, August 8 between 9am and noon during the E-Waste Recycling Day sponsored by RCBA, Ridgeway Technical Services and Virgil T’s. Many items can be recycled for no additional charge; some things like old cathode ray tube (CRT) TVs and printers or copiers will be charged a fee. For a complete list, see RCBA’s Facebook page or email ridgewaycba@gmail.com for a flyer. You may also find the flyer on the RCBA website at ridgewaycba.blogspot.com and click on the flyer on the right.

THANK YOU to all who worked hard to get the latest water leak repaired and service restored!

RCBA MEETING: Ridgeway Community Betterment Association will hold its next business meeting on Monday, August 11 at 7 pm in the Ridgeway Community Room at City Hall. They will start planning the Halloween activities including Trunk-or-Treat.

ALDERMEN MEETING: The city Board of Aldermen will meet on Monday, August 18 at 6 pm in the Ridgeway Community Room at City Hall. If you have an item for the agenda, please contact city clerk Brooklyn Scobee during business hours. The city office is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 am to 4 pm, though please note that the office may be closed for a time on Monday mornings to allow the staff to run errands for the city.

SCHOOL NEWS: The Ridgeway R-V school district is hosting a “Back to School Bash” to welcome students to the 2026-27 school year. The event will be at the school on Wednesday, August 19 from 4 pm to 6:30 pm. Students and their families can come to register for the school year, get information on Title 1, pick up free school supplies and enjoy the Owls Club ice cream bar.

The supply list is out! Check the Ridgeway school website for the list or scroll through the Ridgeway Owls Facebook Page to get the complete list.

The 26-27 school calendar was posted on the Ridgeway Owls page but is not yet on the school website.

SOCIETY: The community sewing group will meet at the Ridgeway Baptist Church on Monday, August 11 from 1 pm to 4 pm. They are working on quilts to be given to local veterans this November. All are invited to come to help. You do not need to bring a sewing machine or have sewing experience – there is something for everyone to do!

Jeanne Cracraft came to see us at our shop this past week and it was so nice to meet another R-C correspondent! Thank you for stopping by!

CLOSING: If you know of any events or plans around town that you would like to see shared with others, please send me the details by Sunday evening! Thank you for reading!
