Though the building no longer stands on the corner of Second and Vine Streets, the Ridgeway Christian Church was once a vibrant part of the community. On October 5, 1941, the church celebrated 60 years of community service and faith with a Home Coming and Basket Dinner. A week of rain before the event made it difficult for members to get church because of the bad condition of the dirt roads, but 160 souls were in Sunday School that day and many more came in time for the 11:00 am worship service.
Brother Melody preached “an inspiring sermon to tired souls” after which the baskets “began to yield up their contents” and was enjoyed by all. The afternoon was filled with music, readings and remarks. While not every number could be mentioned, the Buckley Chapel male quartet, the High School Trio, a reading by Mrs. Hefner of Eagleville on “The Ladies Aid” and an original poem by Elmer Rinehart titled “SMILING” were particularly noted and enjoyed. Jesse Whistler gave a history of the church going back to 1886 which included the memories of the older members of the congregation.
