On September 25, 1924, the Ridgeway Journal printed a large, prominent ad for the Ridgeway Christian Church: “To the Members of the Ridgeway Christian Church”
“There is an important question to be asked at church service next Sunday and we want you there to help answer it. This question cannot be answered by any one member or by any two or three, but requires your voice. In fact, absolutely every member should be present to help answer it. You are urged to be there. If you intend to come only once before the first of the year come next Sunday. Your presence is needed. Come next Sunday Morning.”
What was so urgent that the church needed to put such a large ad into the paper? That week’s Christian Church Notes had no hint, but the following week had the answer in the last paragraph of that week’s Notes: “That was a great service last Sunday morning although there was no sermon. The result of it is that we are now assured that work on repair of the church and the basement will be begun at once. That is much needed for some time and if we can make the necessary repairs to tied us over for a few years it will be great. This work will be taken up at the different church services and your advice will be needed so we want all of you to be at each service and be a booster.” (Ridgeway Journal, Oct 2, 1924).
The ad worked — they had plenty of church members show up and commit to helping with the building repairs.
