In 1930, in the year that should have been Ridgeway’s fiftieth birthday, there was no mention of the anniversary of the town’s founding. A committee of Ridgeway’s businessmen planned a celebration to take place in the park. The day was filled with music by the Ridgeway Band and other locals,, a reading of the Declaration of Independence, and speeches by Judge H. G. Blomfield of Bethany, Judge Spragg and Rev. Wm W. Stanley of the Christian Church. There were performances by the Roger Brothers Famous Clowns and races and other contests throughout the day and concessions were available if you got hungry. There was “something doing throughout the day to interest both old and young.”
Ridgeway residents were told “Cast aside your business worries, load the family into the ‘flivver’ — come to Ridgeway and help us celebrate the 164th anniversary of Independence Day.” Well, do plan to come out to the celebration this Saturday in Ridgeway and if you still have a “flivver”, please enter it in the parade. Unlike today, the city did not have a fireworks display to end the celebration.
